In the 40's, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein changed musicals forever with their brilliant work, Oklahoma - an ingenious blend of song, dance, and storytelling. Their subsequent 40's hits Carousel and South Pacific made them the most powerful men on Broadway. Join us as we explore the second half of their remarkable careers which produced such classics as The King and I, Cinderella, Flower Drum Song, and The Sound of Music. Revisit cherished favorites like Getting to Know You, We Kiss in a Shadow, A Lovely Night, Ten Minutes Ago, I Enjoy Being a Girl, and of course, My Favorite Things. After last year's success, we are returning with a wonderful evening of holiday songs both familiar and new that feature two favorite Yuletide themes - Angels and Bells. Secular favorites like Silver Bells, I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, and Carol of the Bells join Angels We Have Heard On High and Angels From the Realms of Glory to put everyone in a festive mood. So put on your haloes and ring them bells as you join us for Angel Chimes!
Feb 3, 10, & 17 From Baghdad to Baseball- Kismet meets Damn Yankees!
Most musicals are either lush and romantic or brassy and hilarious. From Baghdad to Baseball gives you a delicious taste of both as we spotlight two wonderful songwriting teams that gave Broadway some wonderful hit shows in its Golden Age. Robert Wright and George Forrest produced a pair of blockbuster hits with Kismet and Song of Norway as well as many songs in Grand Hotel. Richard Adler and Jerry Ross scored a pair of home runs with Pajama Game and Damn Yankees. Luxuriate in the gorgeous melodies of Stranger in Paradise and Baubles Bangles and Beads then be ready to laugh and tap your toes to Whatever Lola Wants, Hey There, Heart, Steam Heat, and Hernando's Hideaway. There is something for everyone when you take the trip from Baghdad to Baseball!
May 5, 12, & 19 Coming Up Roses - Jule Styne's Broadway of the 50's
Jule Styne wrote music that was Broadway at it's brassy best. The 50's were perhaps his best decade as he wrote shows that were high points in the careers of Broadway's beloved stars such as Carol Channing, Mary Martin, Judy Holliday, and Ethel Merman. Styne's songs from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Peter Pan, Bells Are Ringing, and Gypsy have been loved for decades by singers as well as audiences. Diamond's Are a Girl's Best Friend, Neverland, Just in Time, The Party's Over, Everything's Coming Up Roses, and Together Wherever We Go are just a few of the gems that you'll hear in this cabaret.
